Knowing and Understanding Your Credit Report
from:One thing that many people are not aware of that could hurt them in the present and future is their credit report. In fact, when it comes to peoples credit reports, many people are not sure as to what are on them as well as how the information can harm them.
Even though there are a couple different companies that supply credit reports, many people do not know where they can get them. However, because your credit report is so important when it comes to purchasing things, it is becoming more known as to where people can get them. In fact, there are many different ways as to how people can find out what is on their credit report and how to obtain a copy of their credit report.
One of the best ways to get a copy of your credit report is by going directly to the credit report agency; where there are three different reporting agencies. When going through the credit report agencies, you can either get through to them by going on the internet and applying for the credit report or you may call them directly. Another way to get a copy of your credit report is by applying for a loan at a bank; where they will then run your credit report to see how your credit looks.
Once you have a copy of your credit report, the most important thing to know is how to read it! Even though it is a printout of your past, there are still many things that you must know and look at. In fact, some of the things that you should look at closely is your credit information; to see if there are any mistakes (whether it is yours or not). Along with looking for any mistakes, you will also want to look at how your payment history is; and if there is room for improvements. Another important thing you will want to keep an eye on in your credit report is who/what has been doing credit checks on you (such as companies that are giving credit cards out or when you apply for a credit card). In fact, many times if there are several companies that do credit checks; that can be harmful to you and your credit report (because it shows that you're applying for one thing or another). Lastly, another very important section that you will want to keep a close eye on (and to keep empty) is the "public records" section; as that will be where the lawsuits and judgments will be (will is the worst thing to be on a credit report).
Whether you are young older, no matter what age you are, your credit report is still one thing that you should look at and keep track of at least once a year; especially since there are so many people that are getting their identities stolen! Your credit report is one was of showing what type of person you are and how you handle your finances!
